To own or not to own

I don't know if you've heard of it yet, but you don't need to pay $2,000 anymore to show off that gorgeous Gucci handbag you never thought you could afford, in fact now you can actually rent it and pretend it's yours. :)

That's what companies like are doing. For a membership fee, plus a rental fee per bag (as low as $15 and as high as $275, monthly), you can pick and choose which incredibly expensive bag you'll want to wear at your next social function.

Great! many will say.

Not so quick! I'll reply.

Before you take out the credit card, you need to take a moment and think about the

If, for example, you are a bit snooty, I don't see how you could live with yourself knowing that you are renting this bag, and now your “status” is below the one of the “bag owners”, you know, the people that can actually afford the bag.

Hopefully it's only going to be difficult at first, while after your 3rd or 4th bag, you will probably have the whole experience rationalized and socked away somewhere remote in your subconscious and there will come the time where you will actually believe you ”own” these bags.

Also, when someone at a party will admire your beautiful bag and ask "Wow, that's such a beautiful Prada bag! Did you rent it?" Don’t get upset because she just called you poor.

Even worse if she says "Great choice! I had that same Louis Vuitton last month, oh wait a minute, that is THE ONE! I recognize it from that little scratch here on the front..."

Which means A - she was showing it off before you and B - ewww

If you are sentimental at all, you also need to ask yourself if you can handle getting attached to all these bags and then having to let them go one after the other one.

Sure you have the option to buy in case you REALLY love one, but now you're buying an old bag!

All kidding aside, I know there are plenty of people out there living by the "out with the old in with the new" motto, and this is a great service for them, that will help them look spectacular without hurting their wallet as much.

So to own or not to own is completely up to you. :)

Another company,, rents jewelry, and it works just like my Netflix service: with 3 different membership levels at $29.95, $49.95 or $99.95 a month, it lets you pick any two or even three different pieces at a time and let’s you keep them for up to four months for no additional charge.

At $20 a month, Netflix better start getting serious and send some popcorn too!

im not so big on brand name with expensive price tags ($1000++ per piece), im more concern about product quality and yet affordable. In my opinion, renting bags, and accessories might works for that special occassion, certainly not best suited for everyday wear bags, apparels and jewelries.
