Superga Shoes

I am not one of those girls that's always on high heels. I do like to wear sneakers when I know I am going to do a lot of walking (for a day at the mall, for example).

I have to admit, though, that sneakers are not very fashionable, and it's hard to pick anything glamorous from a Lady Foot Locker's wall. Nike and New Balance are comfortable but nowhere near "chic". And I don't like Converse at all. So my dilemma got me thinking and researching... and as it usually happens, I end up back at my roots.

Growing up in Italy, I had one favorite brand of sneakers, Superga, and pretty much every Italian girl owned at least a pair or two.

They came in all different colors, and that made you want to go back to the store and buy another pair. Back then, girls used to match the Supergas to the t-shirt they were wearing, so if I wanted to be always color co-ordinated, I had to own at least 10 pairs! That didn't really fly with my mother, so I only had two pairs, a black one (I picked a color I could wear with everything) and a red one (my "wild card" pair!).

Supergas are not readily available in the States, but thanks to the Internet, I can buy them online. :)

To tell you the truth, I have no idea if these sneakers are still "hot" in Italy, or if they have upgraded to a different model or to other brands all together.

Frankly, my dear, I don't care.

All I know is that Supergas were very comfortable and pretty to look at. And the more you wore them, just like jeans, the more they felt like "yours". I don't know why I didn't think to look for them before, but now that I did, I know what sneakers I'll be wearing this Spring...

Great fitting for me right now because I just finished the "Italy" section of the book Eat, Pray, Love. Have you read that? I would love to visit Italy sometime.

Those sneakers are cute!

Astarte, you should visit Italy! Let me know before you go, so I can give you a list of what to do, where to shop, and what to eat when you're there! ;)
