Like when, after having loved him from 1984, I finally got to go to a Duran Duran concert in 2003 and see Simon Le Bon. And realized how gay he really was!
This time it's the Oscars that destroyed another one of my secret convictions: "Fashion designers know who's going to win the Best Actress' Oscar. And they make sure she will outshine everyone else that year!"
Case in point:
Pretty in Pink, Gwyneth Paltrow wins in 1999.

Gorgeous Julia Roberts, wins in 2001.

Stunning Halle Berry, wins in 2002.

Kate Winslet, wins in 2009, but...???

I didn't care for the dress. But Kate always looks stunning. The gown seems--offkilter? I still remember her rendevous with Leo on the Titanic. I plan to go see and read "The Reader."

i thought penelope cruz' dress wayyyy better.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was thinking exactly the same!
I think it's the economy - maybe understated is in? I liked the gray and lace of her dress (I'm a huge fan of neutral gray), but I don't like the way the dress was seamed - looked too piecemeal.
I liked the dresses of Sarah Jessica (but not a fan of hers), Penelope Cruz and Anne Hathaway. Didn't care for Marisa Tomei's dress and although Meryl Streep is older, she doesn't have to dress so frumpy.
That's about all I saw.
Pep's look was great. She was the coolest ever
