dear ny spender reader...

I've been meaning to write this letter for a while now, but I wanted to make sure I had my ideas clear about what I wanted to say.
I've been blogging here since 2006, and a lot of changes have occurred in my life since then, the biggest one, of course, the birth of my daughter.

The birth of a child, especially of the first child, changes you so much, you almost turn into a new person (a mother). And with the role of mother come so many new responsibilities and transformations.

I've always written this blog with pleasure and interest for the next fashion item and beauty secret out there. Today, I feel different.

I won't go as far as saying that I think the fashion world is too shallow, but to keep writing about fashion from an admirer's point of view is not what I want anymore. Things have changed, my life has changed, I'm changed and this blog needs to change as well.

What are the changes, you might ask?

For starters, NY Spender is going to get more personal, more about me and my journey as a new mom with nothing to wear (yes, you read that right!)

Since having the baby, I've lost a lot of interest in getting myself all dressed up, or even half-way dressed up (my clothes are just a big napkin for Kaitlin), and after almost a year, I feel it's time for me to snap out of it and turn my sense of style back on. One of the problems I'm having is that my body is shaped differently now, and I need to fix my waist line (among other things) before it's too late.

This summer I am not going to be caught dead in a bikini, but the goal is to be able to wear one by next summer. Stay tuned for the beginning of a new exercise routine and healthier lifestyle.

I've also completely forgot which colors look good on me, so I need to experiment with the color wheel for a while, and find clothes that fit better, and that reflect the fact that I am now a mom, but without making me look any "older or outdated". Sharing my results here will help me get motivated and hopefully help someone else as well.

There will also be a "frugal shopping" section, since I now spend most of my money on baby clothes, there isn't much left for costly "shallow" shopping. ;)

Finally, I need more humor, so the fashion disasters will stay, but something else is also needed, and I would love it to involve my readers more, too. Maybe y'all can start snapping pictures too!

So this is it for now, let's see how it turns out. Thanks for understanding.

I've been reading your blog since 2006 and have always been a fan:D
I used to like your blog before and am looking forward to the new version!
Being a mother as well, I completely understand how things change.
I love the idea of the "frugal shopping" section, especially living in the city where almost everything is expensive, and "fashion disaster" has to stay for being one of my favorites! Whenever I see fashion disasters on the streets, I always wished I could snap a pic and send it to you!
Wish you success on your new blog!

This sounds great, I've always liked practicality and being fashionable at the same time. This sounds like an oxymoron, but you've managed to pull it off several times.

I understand as a new mom the extra money goes to baby. Babes must be costly! But I'm so glad Baby K. has brought you so much fulfillment. Look forward to continuing to participate on the blog.

I know I rarely comment anymore (for the same reason you're changing your blog up a bit ;D) but I'm still a big following and am looking forward to your new stuff! I'd love to contribute fashion disasters if I can be stealthy with my phone! ;D

Megan! Nice to see you are still around! How's the little one? He must walk already!

Yeah I need to put him on a tether now. ;D He's all over the place and is always 'talking'. He's so much fun. :) Where's your little one at in her journey through life?

Are you on facebook? Friend me if you still have my info!

Haha - with my daughter recently 25 and my "baby" turning 22 in two weeks, I'm loving the "evolution" here! I always felt a little like "odd man out" in the fashion world and even here sometimes, although I've always enjoyed reading :-) But now I think everyone else is catching up to me! Once you become a mom, everything changes - forever and for the better :-)

Oh and I just had a birthday - know what my children's gift to me was? A pair of Tory Burch Revos, black, gold buckle! I'm usually a sneaker/flats kind of gal, what with my arthritis - but they wanted to bring a little style into my life. How cool is that? I would never have bought them for myself - cute, but way too expensive for this mom!

Dear Maria,

yes, yes and yes!

Your kids are the best, they love you and they know fashion... you did a great job with them! :)

Now you make me want to look at TB flats...
