Movie Marathons

I'm not writing this post to promote TV watching. I actually have gotten rid of cable a few years ago and never looked back. It's not that I hate television, just the opposite, I love a good movie or a TV show, but especially after having a baby, I wanted to make sure she didn't grow up glued to the TV, and without the television constantly running in the background, there is a better chance of getting involved in more rewarding activities, like reading and good old fashioned playing on the carpet with whatever toys we feel like it.

Plus, I've never been a big fan of paying $100 for 1000 channels, of which I only watch maybe 10. Until the day the cable company lets me hand pick my channels and charges me a-la-carte (or until the day my daughter starts demanding the Disney channel) our family is not going to be slave to the absurd cable bill.

We do have a Netflix subscription and we love it! We always have a movie on hand if we feel like watching one. And one of the things I used to love (and that I'm not able to do at the moment because of my 3 year old) was watching movie marathons.

Pick a weekend, pick a special occasion, pick a fun gathering, pick a breakup, pick a heat-wave, pick a recovery time... there are a few reasons out there to sit down and pop a few movies one after the other one. And there are a few movies out there that are just meant to be part of a movie marathon night(s).

(if you don't see all the movies pictures, try refreshing your page)

Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) [Blu-ray]

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (The Fellowship of the Ring / The Two Towers / The Return of the King Extended Editions) [Blu-ray]

Harry Potter: The Complete 8 Film Collection [Blu-ray]

The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Giftset (The Godfather / The Godfather Part II / The Godfather Part III) [Blu-ray]

Rocky: The Undisputed Collection (Rocky / Rocky II / Rocky III / Rocky IV / Rocky V / Rocky Balboa) [Blu-ray]

Terminator 2 (Six-Disc Limited Edition + Endoskull Bust) [Blu-ray]

The Hitchcock Collection

The Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection

But a movie marathon doesn't have to be made out of movie series only, in fact you can make your own movie series based on your particular mood:

Paul Newman Marathon:

Romantic Marathon:

Tear Jerker Marathon:

Inspiring Marathon:

Tough to Watch Marathon:

Visually Stunning Marathon:

Funny Marathon:

Interesting Marathon:

I loved Lord of the Rings! I didn't think I would like it as much as I did, but I did! :)
Hopefully, you'll get that weekend off soon...
